If you are coming to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics there are a few things that you need to know. The first thing is that finding a hotel or place to rent will be difficult if you dont plan well in advance. Whistler, the place where the olympics are being held is actually a very small venue. If you are planning on traveling up to whistler from vancouver to watch the events you are going to want to make sure you have a few things in order. The first thing is that you must allow yourself at least one hour and thirty minutes during off rush hour times to get to whistler from Vancouver, if you are attempting to get there during rush hour I would add at least thirty to forty five minutes on top to be safe. The sea to sky highway has been upgraded especially for the winter olympics but there will still be much congestion as it is in some parts only a single lane highway. There are a few different ways to reach whistler, the first and most expensive option would be to hire a helicopter and to fly up, this is a short flight usually less than half an hour depending onĀ conditions but expect to pay big bucks to do this. The next option you have is to drive your own or a rented car up to the village. The problem with this is that there will be absolutely no parking available during the peak hours and you could find yourself in a rough situationĀ stuck without parking. If you are looking for an economical way to reach whistler you can always take the bus, from the main street terminal there is a bus that runs every few hours. Be ready to be packed in and there will be a general rush for boarding. I do not recommend this if you are traveling with luggage as it can get very difficult. The final and most comfortable option would be to hire a limousine. They are actually very affordable when you do the calculations, less than half the cost of taking a taxi. It is surprising, but limousine companies are able to give affordable rates because they do not work with the same time of corporate structure that taxi companies do. If you are traveling with more than just yourself this could be the most comfortable and easy solution to your trip to whistler for the olympics.
